TRIFORCE OF FREEDOM (2025)

3-Channel video installation, 10:00 min. Size: variable

TRIFORCE OF FREEDOM is a three-part video series that dissects the tension between emotional entanglement, autonomy, and the ever-shifting boundaries of freedom. Through striking visual and sonic narratives, the work interrogates what it means to *carry*—whether emotionally or physically—and how the act of holding on or letting go shapes our experience of liberation.
Each chapter presents a distinct yet interconnected perspective:
Part 1: PRISONER OF LOVE explores the inescapable weight of emotional bonds, portraying the complexities of longing and attachment.
Part 2:NO BAG embraces the radical act of release, rejecting burdens entirely in pursuit of movement and unencumbered existence.
Part 3: I ENVISIONED A PATH TOWARDS SURVIVAL AND IT WAS FULL OF JOY serves as a bridge between the two, recognizing the paradox of freedom—acknowledging the gravity of emotional ties while daring to step beyond them.
Drawing from an upcoming written publication by Dominique Mantilla,  TRIFORCE OF FREEDOM is a meditation on the contradictions of liberation—an ongoing negotiation between constraint and release. This work offers a compelling addition to exhibitions and collections focused on contemporary narratives of identity, resilience, and the politics of emotional survival.

PRISONER OF LOVE

(5:30 min., one channel)

The narrator finds themselves emotionally imprisoned by a romantic connection, symbolized by the literal prison environment and the metaphorical imprisonment of love. The piece captures the weight and inescapability of emotional bonds. In Prisoner of Love, vulnerability is heightened in the setting of a juvenile detention center, where the narrator is drawn to someone who embodies both danger and emotional depth. The narrator carries the emotional weight of desire and connection, which ultimately ends up becoming a form of self-imprisonment.

NO BAG

This piece contrasts by emphasizing freedom through lightness and rejecting unnecessary emotional weight („no ex, no grudge, no touch, and no hate“). It suggests a liberated state of being where autonomy prevails over emotional baggage. In No Bag, the narrator reclaims power through assertive independence, implying vulnerability is something to be avoided or managed. The video piece uses the metaphor of an empty bag to reject attachment or emotional dependency, positioning self-reliance as the ultimate goal. The narrator deliberately chooses to carry nothing unnecessary, asserting control over what impacts their mental and emotional space.

(3:20 min., one channel)

I ENVISIONED A PATH TOWARDS SURVIVAL AND IT WAS FULL OF JOY

(4:00 min., one channel)

This piece is a meditative manifesto on navigating emotional entanglement and self-preservation. It explores the cyclical nature of human vulnerability and resilience, urging the reader to confront the weight of emotional constraints while embracing personal autonomy. The piece juxtaposes moments of despair („You will cry, but not tomorrow“) with an unyielding resolve to reclaim agency („Believe in your visions“).
